While I have been to quite a few Red Sox games since I have lived in Boston, the best one by far was last Friday. It was the 100th anniversary of Fenway Park opening on April 20, 1912. Back in 1912 the Red Sox played the New York Highlanders (now Yankees) and won 7-6. While it was a great day for Boston it was only a few days after the sinking of the Titanic and did not make front page news.
On Friday, April 20, 2012 I went to the game Boston Red Sox vs New York Yankees. They had an hour ceremony prior to the game where every Red Sox player ever was invited to walk onto the field to the theme song from the movie "Field of Dreams". It would have been moving even for the non-baseball fans. Many players were in wheel chairs or canes, players from the 2 world series championships in 2004 and 2007, all 4 players who have their numbers retired in Fenway Park and even someone who played in 1941. It was moving to the say the least. Apparently the oldest living Hall of Famer was there who flew all the way from Junction City, OR. Go figure! Also, John Williams the famous composer who did Jurassic Park and Star Wars among many others used to compose the Boston Pops orchestra. He came to direct Fanfare for Fenway during the ceremony. Overall it was an amazing experience and a once in a lifetime. Thanks Kevin for the tickets!! Here are few pictures from the epic game.
