Mt. Terror VS Scott Base

Last Sunday was the annual rugby game between the McMurdo Mt. Terror team and the kiwi's Scott Base team. It was the most beautiful day that you could ask for after a week of snow and delayed flights. The game took place at "The Transition". This is where the road transitions from a dirt easy access road to the snow road leading out the Pegasus air field. This was one of the few days when I looked around and said to myself..."Wow I am actually in Antarctica!" There was no buildings around just snow and the rugby field. Such an awesome location.
Mt. Terror put up a good fight for the first half of the game allowing the kiwis to score only 1 try (aka 5 points). But then the second half it all fell apart and we lost 23-0. We haven't won in the history of the rivalry but the kiwis said they were generally nervous during the first half. A good time was had by all in any case. While rugby rules are still a shady for me...like the ball is still in play after it hits the ground and you can only throw backwards...it was a great sporting event!!

The kiwis did the tradtional Haka before the game started. This was awesome. It is a tradtional Maori tradtion to intimidate the enemy or opponent.
