Last night I decided to take the once in a lifetime hike up to the top of Ob (observatory) Hill at 1am to see the last sunset in Antarctica for 4 months. It was an awesome experience leaving town at 12am and hiking up in broad daylight and -5 degrees to see the sun dip below the horizon only for it to come back up 45 min later. Here are a few pictures from that hike.

Ob Hill at the bottom

The sun is beginning to set.

McMurdo...isn't it beautiful.

The Ice Runway...as in 900 feet of ocean between me and that other island.
These are great pics. What a unique and wonderful experience.

I love the images - keep them coming. The next darkness doesn't arrive until Feb 20, 2010. Keep the shades pulled down!
